Company Eligibility
To qualify for an SBIR/STTR grant, your business must meet specific requirements:
- Be a for-profit organization.
- Operate primarily within the United States.
- Be at least 50% owned by U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
- Employ fewer than 500 people.
SBIR/STTR Funding Opportunities
The program offers two types of funding pathways:
Omnibus Solicitations: broad-topic, investigator-initiated opportunities that allow companies to propose ideas across diverse areas of innovation.
Specific Opportunities: targeted solicitations designed to address research and commercialization needs identified by federal agencies.
Required Company Registrations
Before submitting an SBIR/STTR proposal, companies must complete four mandatory registrations:
- System of Award Management (SAM)
- eRA Commons
- Grants.gov
- Small Business Administration (SBA)
